Trump seeks early victory in Iowa caucus, as Republicans brave cold and snow

Donald Trump is ahead in terms of popularity compared to other contenders who are hoping for the Republican nomination in the upcoming US presidential elections. And the popularity rate of the current US President Joe Biden is at the lowest level ever.

A new survey by ABC News/Ipsos shows such a picture. The results of the poll were released on Sunday, a day before the Iowa caucuses held ahead of the November 2024 presidential election.

The poll showed Trump far ahead of Republican hopefuls Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Essa Hutchinson in three areas.

At least 68 percent of Republican members and Republican supporters say Trump is most likely to win the November election if he is nominated. In this case, support for Nikki Haley is 12 percent, support for DeSantis is 11 percent. Support rates against other candidates are in the single digits.

Republicans polled say Trump is a "stronger leader" and "most qualified" to be president than the party's other nominees.

Overall, more than 70 percent of Republican adult voters want Trump to be the nominee.

On the other hand, 57 percent of Democrats share this view of Biden.

According to polls, Biden's popularity as president has fallen to an all-time low. In the last 15 years, no US president's approval rating has been this low.

Biden's approval rating as president fell to 33 percent in the new poll, the lowest since 2006-08 for any US president. During Trump's presidency, his approval rating dropped to 36 percent. Fifty-eight percent of Democrats polled said they did not support Biden as president.

Polls show that Biden's popularity among women has also decreased. About 31 percent of women polled said they support President Biden. In the 2020 survey, he received the support of 57 percent of women. In a new poll, 34 percent of men say they support Biden as president.

Support for Biden among black and Hispanic voters also did not show promising results.

Based on the comparison between Biden and Trump as two possible candidates between the Republicans and Democrats, the survey report said that Biden is ahead of Trump in terms of honesty and credibility. In this case, Biden received the support of 41 percent and Trump received the support of 26 percent. However, Trump's support rate is higher than Biden's in terms of 'mental agility' and 'physical ability' in becoming president again.
