Coachella Unveils 2024 Lineup Featuring Headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, and No Doubt
Goldenvoice, the festival organizers, revealed on Tuesday that Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator, and No Doubt are set to headline the 2024 Coachella festival. The lineup, displayed in the poster below, features a diverse array of artists, including Peso Pluma, Blur, J Balvin, Ice Spice, Sublime, Lil Uzi Vert, Grimes, Victoria Monet, Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Justice, Deftones, Lil Yachty, and showcases emerging talents such as Bizarrap, Khruangbin, and others. The 23rd edition of the festival is scheduled to take place at its usual venue, the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif., over the weekends of April 12-14 and April 19-21.
Attendees who purchased tickets for the 2023/2022 festival will have the opportunity for early access to passes during the loyalty presale, starting on Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. PT. The general presale is set to begin on Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. PT.
In 2023, YouTube returns as the exclusive livestream partner for both weekends of Coachella, streaming the festival on its official YouTube channel.
This year introduces the third occurrence of an intriguing fourth headlining slot at the bottom of the festival poster. This slot grants the artist headliner billing through font-size hierarchy but lacks a specific date, unlike the first three headliners who top the bills for each of the festival’s three days. The exact meaning of this fourth slot has remained somewhat elusive. Initially, it was thought to be either a late-night dance performance or a backup headliner in case one of the main headliners withdrew, as was the case with Swedish House Mafia in 2022, taking over Sunday-night slots with the Weeknd when Kanye West canceled shortly before the festival. However, last year, when Frank Ocean withdrew from the second weekend after a controversial headlining slot during the first, Blink-182 took his place while Harris performed late-night DJ sets. With veteran alt-rock act No Doubt in that position this year, the significance becomes even more perplexing.
Insiders reveal that Dua Lipa and Shakira, both anticipating new album releases in 2024, were considered for headline slots at Coachella. Lipa is said to have opted out due to scheduling conflicts, while festival organizers reportedly decided against featuring Shakira.
Originally slated to headline Coachella's 2020 edition, Rage Against the Machine faced multiple postponements amid the pandemic. Despite the band's successful relaunch of their second reunion tour in 2022 with 19 shows, singer Zach de la Rocha encountered a significant knee injury, leading to indefinite postponement of the remaining dates. Recent statements from drummer Brad Wilk on Jan. 3 indicate that any future touring or live performances by the group are no longer on the table.
The headliners for the previous year included Bad Bunny, Blackpink, and initially scheduled 2020 headliner Frank Ocean for the first weekend. Despite Frank Ocean's original plans for an elaborate performance featuring an ice-skating rink with numerous skaters, the setup was unexpectedly dismantled at the last minute. Consequently, he delivered a casual, delayed set that left many fans disappointed. Ocean eventually canceled his appearance for the second weekend, leading to Blink-182 stepping in as his replacement.
For the second consecutive year, Coachella experienced a last-minute change in headliners. The 2022 lineup originally featured Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and a collaborative set from the Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia, the latter filling in for Kanye West who withdrew just days before the festival's opening weekend.
As the largest music festival in North America, Coachella has already sold out all 125,000 per-day tickets.
